Normally, I wouldn’t give two hoots about the prairie look. Growing up in the West, I’ve seen my fair share of prairie skirts with cowboy boots. That’s good and all for the ranch or a stock show, but let’s see if we can change it up. What I am loving right now, is taking a prairie or mini-floral print, and combining it with sturdy, modern accessories. Annebeth from Antwerpen, Belgium (above) showed us her prairie dress with rugged, black, work boots and an aged, brown, leather belt. She got it exactly right — farm girl meets urban hipster. The duality that you’re going for here are tough, leather counterparts to sweet floral or patchwork prints.
Another way to style it, is with a studded sandal + a chunky leather cuff. It’s a bit softer than Annebeth’s look, but still manages to show a dual personality. Sundance catalog is fantastic at pairing western looks with on-trend accessories. If you haven’t checked out their artisan jewelry or understated handbags, you should — it’s high-quality and unique.
And even more options for modern prairie (clockwise):
Marc Jacobs Shadow Prairie dress, $1710
Crochet Prairie skirt, Forever 21, $20
Antik Batik Printed Cotton dress, $110
Have a great one!
