Out Like a Lamb

If March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, it’s about time for that lamb to show up, graze around and settle in for spring. In Boulder, weather-wise we are about a month behind other parts of the U.S. As I walk the neighborhood, I see crocus beginning to pop up and spreading their petals out from under light snow. Nearly everyone I run into is giddy about warmer temperatures. So today, I felt drawn toward this street style photo of Helena Bordon at the recent Paris fashion shows in her floral coat. She is a breath of spring incarnate.

Florals are big every spring, but this year’s crop of flowers is more edgy than classic. Designers are taking some of the sweetness out of floral patterns by deconstructing the print, using neon colors, or coating the fabric for high shine. I like looking to the runways to see the mood of what will be coming into stores.  Here are some of my favorites from the Spring 2014 runways.

There are over 500 looks from Spring 2014 on my Pinterest board. If you like these, it’s a wonderful place to see all the spring trends and find tons of inspiration.

Floral accessories always catch my eye as a great way to add life to your outfit and celebrate the return of warm weather. If you’d like just a taste of floral, these products satisfy the craving.

5 Random Things

Here are some things I thought were interesting or curious this week and wanted to share with you:

  1. Refinery29 put up a shopping guide for 12 Perfect Pairs of Tan Booties That Will Put A Spring In Your Step. High heeled, low heeled, pricey and affordable. Great picks.
  2. Tommy Ton shoots street style at the Spring Couture shows that are happening now. It’s the show before the show, if you know what I mean.
  3. WhoWhatWear gives us a lesson on how to wear your jeans with boots and how to remedy that awkward boot tuck.
  4. Is this the end of Lady Mary’s suitor, Lord Gillingham? We hope not, because he’s kind of dreamy. Get another look at this handsome bloke.
  5. And on that note, take a sip of Cocktail Recipes from the World’s Most Romantic Bars. Passion Royale, anyone?

Hang in there! It’s almost the weekend.

Street Inspiration: Worldly Winter Coats

Last weeks’ sub-zero arctic blast in Colorado had us braving daily highs of 5 degrees. Brrrrrrr! With that passed, it feels downright balmy at 35 degrees in Boulder today. Boy, does one’s perspective change quickly. Given the icy plunge into deep, dark winter, I wanted to show what women around the world (in the Ukraine, Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, Bulgaria and US) are wearing to keep warm and stylish.

It can be tough to look pulled together when the temperatures are frosty, but these women are wonderful. Their coats range from printed to colorful and romantic to classic. This is why I love local street style so much. It’s not trying to sell me something. It’s just women being real and going about their lives in the clothes they actually wear.

Have fun out there and stay warm!

The Woman Who Wears It

Mint may be popular, emerald on our radar and graphic B&W is certainly chic, but there’s more than enough room for red in our weekly rotation of colors. All five of these beautiful women are in bold red dresses that could be worn to work, dinner or a weekend party / wedding. I also thought many of these dresses would work for us gals who are 40+. I’m always thinking about how to feature personal style that works for many age groups — not just for younger women.

I’ll post a picture of the red dress I recently wore. It took me from Father’s Day brunch with family, to the airport and on a packed flight home to Denver. I never think to wear a dress on a plane, but it turned out to be so comfortable. More later!

Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.
