Wear Now, Wear Later

It’s maddening to buy clothes that have a one-season shelf life. We spend a lot of time shopping for clothing, that we might only wear for a short amount of time. I’m always interested in getting more mileage out of things, even trendy items, which by their very nature are short-lived (maybe 2-4 seasons, i.e. all-white has been going steadily for about 3 seasons and is heading into 2013 as strong as ever).

With the Spring 2013 runway collections wrapping up in Paris, next year’s trends are already starting to crystallize. Since most of us are still shopping for this season, why not kill two birds with one stone? You can add a few forward-looking trends to your closet right now, that will have you ahead of the curve come March.

I got a kick out of the Dries Van Noten spring collection this year. He makes me want to pick up some plaid and relive the 90s. His layering techniques and materials are masterful. Click the link above and see how he turned grunge into a posh affair.

My Spring Fashion Pinterest board is up to 141 looks. If you want to see what else is trending, go take a look and get ahead on your shopping.

In My Garden (photo: Buckle Button Zip)

Inspired by the budding yellow daffodils in my garden this morning and the bright colors that are a signature trend for Spring 2011, let’s take a look at some sunny options that are ready for show right now:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Slim Wallet

Longchamp 'Darshan Flowers - Small' Tote

Anthropologie Creased Swirls Corset Top

Kenneth Cole Reaction "Shine Through"

West Elm Modernist Bowl

Modcloth Canary Your Things Mug

I’ll take one of each please!

Ending the post with some lovely words that came on the end of my tea bag:

I am beautiful,

I am bountiful,

I am blissful.

Rubbernecking

I’m rubbernecking between the Spring 2011 clothes in front of me and what’s coming down the runway right now during New York Fashion Week Fall 2011. While there are still a few days of Fashion Week left, I’ve already begun to make notes on my favorite designs and designer collections. Fresh in my mind are my top few: Altuzarra, Jill Stuart, Carolina Herrera, ADAM, and Jenny Packham. However, the most flawless collection so far, is Donna Karan. Her muted palette of toasty browns and soft grays featured grown-up silhouettes and a sumptuous luxury you can see. I can’t only imagine how wonderful they must feel.

Marc Jacobs showed his collection last night in a parade of polka dots, long, long skirts, and high necklines. Marc Jacobs never fails to deliver drama, high-concept style and creativity. I actually prefer his Spring 2011 collection over this one, but his designs are so influential that I’m sure this collection will be significant.

Here is video of the Marc Jacobs show from yesterday. If you’re at work, you might want to turn down/off the volume, because Marilyn Manson is about to rock the runway.

What do you think of this? The boots are pretty killer, I’ll say that!

I’m very much looking forward to seeing what Michael Kors shows this week. I usually go weak in the knees for his collections.

For More NYFW Coverage

Wishing you were there? Me too! I’ve been keeping up-to-date through Nina Garcia’s fashion recap. She has video streams of the big shows as well as highlights and notes on this week. She’s my go-to girl for this week coverage. Love you, Nina!

Also, my blogging buddy, The Quietest Rebel always puts together the most beautiful photo layouts of the collections. See her fashion recaps of major and smaller lines like Suno, Doo.Ri, Rachel Zoe, Ruffian and more.

Enjoy!
