In Agreement

It’s nice when the all-powerful Vogue and I have a meeting of the minds. Makes me feel like I’m not off my rocker by too much. Recently, I did a post on Retro Glamour and featured this hot little red dress by BB Dakota via online retailer Modcloth.com. Turns out it landed on Vogue’s 100 Under $100 list featured on Vogue.com site this week. There’s much to covet in this Vogue list, all for under $100, featuring trend items in tweed/plaids, retro, rocker girl, global traveler, country weekend, clean chic (minimalism) and the twenties. Some of the items make great gift ideas and hostess gifts too.

Another fantastic item I came across this week is from the Wall Street Journal of all places. They have a weekend section called Off Duty and some genius created a heritage-hipster matrix that was seriously great. Guys, you can break out your Sorrels and L.L. Bean jackets with some confidence that you’ll be right in style. Click the image for a blown-up version. Sorry I couldn’t make it bigger on the blog. It’s worth the click-through.

Local Scene: Denver

Last night we had the pleasure of dining at Venue Bistro in the heart of the Highlands neighborhood of Denver. This restaurant is a true local gem that has garnered well-deserved attention and awards from the local media. They debuted their new autumn menu last night and we gobbled down squash soup, shrimp and grits, braised short-ribs and pan-seared chicken. If you go, you absolutely must save room for the White Carrot cake and Squash Custard. Not your typical ingredients for dessert, but they were both heaven on a plate and we scraped the dishes clean. Venue Bistro also won the 2010 Dinners Choice Award by OpenTable.com. Well deserved in my opinion.

Retro Glamour 60s style

New York Fashion Night Out (photo: Theo Wargo/Getty)

Darling, this is so glamorous, no? The incredibly high hair, red lips and kitten heels. The women are covered up, but undeniably sexy. That’s what I love about the retro glamour of the 60′s era. The dresses flatter with a nipped-in waist and full skirt. The kitten heels add a bit of height, but do not tower, at only 2″ high. Sure, these gals have been styled way over-the-top to make the point, but the concept works well for real life as well. Try one of these instead of your usual go-to dresses and add a brooch, red lip or button earrings to finish it off. I’m not sure who will love this look more, you, your girlfriends, or the men who’ll be turning their heads to get a look at you?!
