Slick Silver

MetallicSpring

First off, Happy New Year!

For one, I’m glad to put last year to bed, and be off and running on a new year. I’m still formulating my personal vision for 2015, but with irons already in the fire, I’m looking forward to it. While 2014 was mostly good, there were more surprises than I’ve had in a while and not the fun kind. I guess some years are like that and all in all, we are happy, healthy and wiser.

As for fresh starts, I wanted to show something besides winter white or cozy sweaters, even though I’m a big fan of those looks. When I saw this metallic shoe punctuating her everyday outfit, it seemed right. Right for winter doldrums and right for ushering in softer spring looks (whenever that will be).

So….I went and found some cool options for pretty silver metallic shoes:

Prada pointy toe leather pump, $650

Sophia Webster ‘Izzy’ holographic leather shoe, $210

Seychelles ‘Majestic’ d’Orsay pump, $109

Tamara Mellon ‘Addiction’ pump, $238

I’ve never worn a metallic shoe like these, but think I’d really dig it. Do you remember these insane Alexander Wang metallic loafers? Wish I had a pair right now…

Enjoy the day!

Nothing New – Day 29

Floral print + Oxfords

Floral print + Oxfords

Wearing: Maeve floral print (Anthropologie) / BP oxfords (also on Day 13) / mixed metal and blue glass bracelets (gifts) / belt (came with a different dress).

Not much to say about this, except that I really like wearing flats during the day. I’m always looking for ways to keep an outfit interesting without sacrificing my feet (and therefore the rest of me). It’s true that the padding under our toes and heels thins out as we get older, so we do need more cushion in our shoes. An article by the LA Times also said that our feet spread out and get wider from years of use (ah, gravity). So if those old shoes are feeling tight, maybe this is why.

It’s not too surprising to read this. I’ve been gravitating toward more foot-friendly shoes for a few years now. I save my heels for dinners out or special occasions. In general, wedges have become my go-to heel whenever possible. Things are bound to change in our bodies and I’d rather be healthy than hurting.

Are you more of a flats gal or do you usually wear a heel? And how do you feel about that?

Happy Monday and here’s hoping all the Moms are feeling well-loved and a bit more pampered after yesterday. I know I do! My family made it nice by feeding me comfort food (cinnamon rolls and bacon, yum), encouraging me to take time for myself and then setting up a nice hot bath at the end of the day. I forgot how great a bath can be.

There are two pictures for Day 26 because I wasn’t sure which bag was better with the skirt outfit. Thoughts? Maybe neither, I don’t know. I was kind of stumped. Help needed!

Have a lovely day.

Today’s post goes out to my mom, who has a birthday today. She is not only my best friend, but a kind, generous, and thoughtful person who taught me to love books by taking me to the library often as a girl. She created a wonderful home for all of us and encouraged us to be good people. She caught the Julia Child cooking fever when it was de rigeur and I remember the day we made our first crepes at home. These days she is still an amazing cook, hostess, photographer, reader, and gardener and has a wide circle of friends that she sees often. She’s going hiking today and then, if I know her, she and my father will have tea in the afternoon. In fact, she sent two teabag tags this week to our daughter for the teabag wisdom collection. Thanks Mom! We love you so much.

Happy Birthday to you!

We watched the documentary Mademoiselle C this weekend about fashion industry icon, Carine Roitfeld. It was filmed right after she left French Vogue and during the process of launching her new magazine, CR. Of course, she is meticulous and creative, as one might expect, but what took me aback was how likeable, feminine and supportive she is. In every fashion photo you see of her, she usually looks very fierce, but there’s definitely a softer side to her.

After watching all the fashion shoots and the highly stylized sets and clothes, I had no problem throwing on a pair of sunglasses for my Monday look. Pretty out there for me, but at least I didn’t pull out some feathers and a fan. Maybe another day.

What did you watch this past weekend??
