On Friday,  I had the good fortune to attend an event in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. There was beautiful singing, reminders of important events in the Civil Rights Movement and a keynote speaker that talked about service to community. The speaker talked about the importance of giving back and helping those in need, just as Dr. King gave of himself in the fight for civil rights for African-Americans. I can think of no greater way to honor Martin Luther King Jr., than to consider what kind of service we can extend to our neighbors in Haiti, who are reeling from the devastating earthquake of barely a week ago.

In place of any kind of fashion rundown, I thought I’d supply a list of organizations seeking donations for immediate support to Haiti. If you can give, it would be an amazing gift to the people of Haiti.

American Red Cross

Doctors Without Borders

UNCHR – UN Refugee Agency

Oxfam America

  1. Your reminder to give at this critical time for Haiti can serve as a reminder to support caring organizations on a regular basis. There is always a need, in the U.S. or the rest of the world.

  2. Thanks for this reminder on this very meanigful day.
