Trend-casting for Fall 2013

Pre-Fall 2013 is officially fabulous. Pre-Fall is a fashion mini-season necessity that fills the gap between seasons when Spring lines have gone on sale and the heavy-hitting Fall lines haven’t yet arrived. They are smaller-scale designer collections that are extremely wearable, as opposed to the Fall lines which tend toward more conceptual fantasy and flash. What it means for us, is amazing clothes that will hit in June/July. It’s also a preview to where the designers are heading for Fall 2013.

What’s Trending and A Sneak Peak at Fall 2013

Printed Pants. Lots of slim-cut printed pants will be available. Floral at Erdem, graphic at Sachin + Babi, botanic at Prabel Gurung, graffiti at Proenza Schouler and Asian-inspired prints at Carolina Herrera.

Black, black, and black & white. There’s no danger of black ever going out of style and this season, you’ll have more than your fair share of options. It’ll be a great time to update luxe basics and wardrobe staples.

White is (still) so hot. Donna Karan cuts a razor-sharp suit of all-white that is quite a knock-out. Other beautiful options come from Helmut Lang (dress), Zero + Maria Cornejo (dress + jacket), and Escada (pant suit).

A strong case for length. Roksanda Ilincic‘s calf-grazing collection paired with lace-up grey boots is outstanding. She also has a jumpsuit (!) that is one of the most gorgeous and wearable I’ve seen. Longer silhouettes are also on tap at Calvin Klein, Tory Burch and Donna Karan.

A new batch of colors: rust, olives and browns. I’ve been wondering when I’d see brown again and it looks like it’s beginning to resurface. Also, beautiful rusty shades, and military green/olives are coming. Green, blue, and purple are alive as well.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2013

Gucci, Roksanda Ilincic, Zero + Maria Cornejo and Donna Karan all had solid collections, especially for professionals and women over 40. I pinned  65+ pictures of Pre-Fall 2013 over at Pinterest. Go check it out! Such beautiful fashion coming our way (and good outfit ideas too).

  1. I love this sneak peek! So happy to see trends that are really wearable and classic:)

  2. I agree! They ARE wearable. I’m drooling over the Herrera and that white pants suit. Did you see Lucy Liu’s Herrera gown at the golden globes? Great collection Laura. Elaine

    • I thought Lucy Liu’s dress was a show stopper. It looked like what couture should look like. So few women could have pulled that off. And her hair was great. I think Carolina Herrera continues to wow us. She has not run out of ideas.

  3. All clean, classic looks. The length of the black Gucci pants are perfect – not too short, not too long. I’m in love with the red coat, and the all the shoes are to die for!

  4. Love these pics. Things I am loving- the printed pants, more black, and the new shades of rust, olive, and brown.

  5. Gosh! Already pre-fall 2013!
I do love all of it!!! I mean, printed pants! B&W! Rich colors! Classic lines…perfect!

  6. love Ports red coat and the Philip Lim look! xxx
