7 Cool-Weather Vests For Right Now

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got most of your summer clothes, a handful of sweaters, a few sandals, a few boots and all kinds of tees stuffing your closet right now. The weather is bouncing between warm and cool, and everyday is a guessing game. This is when I love to move my vests to the forefront. They work for cool mornings/evenings, give outfits a more fall-like look, and they can be worn right into colder months. Following are some really fantastic vests available right now:

7 fall Vests to wear now (and Later)

Layfayette 148 New York Vest, $448

Anthropologie Temescal Fring Vest, $198

JOA Brushed Plaid Vest, $129

Iris & Ink Shearling Vest, $595

Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, $275

OAK Wool-blend Vest, $470

Some of these picks are casual and some more dressy. If you’re a trend-follower, the fringe and folk print vests are for you. I also really like the longer lines on a few of these and can see them looking sleek over slim pants or skinnies. While I always try to keep the price-points at less than $500, the Iris & Ink shearling vest crept past that mark. Sorry! (I could not find a cuter real shearling vest.)

Hope you’ll dig out a vest from your closet and put it into rotation. We can’t ignore the turning leaves for much longer.

Today’s post goes out to my mom, who has a birthday today. She is not only my best friend, but a kind, generous, and thoughtful person who taught me to love books by taking me to the library often as a girl. She created a wonderful home for all of us and encouraged us to be good people. She caught the Julia Child cooking fever when it was de rigeur and I remember the day we made our first crepes at home. These days she is still an amazing cook, hostess, photographer, reader, and gardener and has a wide circle of friends that she sees often. She’s going hiking today and then, if I know her, she and my father will have tea in the afternoon. In fact, she sent two teabag tags this week to our daughter for the teabag wisdom collection. Thanks Mom! We love you so much.

Happy Birthday to you!

Playing catch up with my Nothing New project. Here are my outfits from the past few days. We had a long weekend off from school and that always means busy, busy, busy. We also went to my sister’s house this weekend for a family get-together with was really wonderful. We sat around for hours enjoying the weather, talking and eating good food.

Hope you’ve had a good weekend too and are settling into your week. The weather is getting nicer and nicer! So ready for that.

7 Post-Workout Pieces (that you can wear any day)

One of the most important things we can commit to during the holiday season has nothing to do with shopping, baking, hosting guests or decorating the house. It’s ourselves. Often we have a love/hate feeling this time of year and in our efforts to make it festive/memorable/happy/beautiful, we completely lose our balance. We pour all our energy out and forget to take any time for ourselves.

To stay sane (or at least saner) and keep the inner-grinch at bay, sticking to a regular workout routine is essential. Sure, it’s the busiest time of year, but the hours logged on your fitbit will payoff. You’ll sleep better, be less edgy, increase your metabolism and get that lovely hit of endorphins. Definitely worth the effort of pulling on spandex pants.

From Sweat to Street

As you exit the gym/yoga studio/great outdoors with a glow and flexed muscles, there will still be a list of things to do. I don’t know about you, but I hate flashing my spandex rear at anyone, anywhere at anytime. I’m a work in progress and like to cover my wobbly parts as best I can. So in the spirit of going from downward dog to downright chic, here are 7 street-worthy options for your post workout world.

Ibex long tunic sweater jacket merino

Ibex Back Bay Merino Tunic $180, in Black, Blue or Olive

Athleta down long coat

Athleta Downalicious CYA Coat $228, in Black & Taupe

What I especially love about these pieces is that they’re not workout specific and can be worn any day of the week. They’d be pretty great as travel pieces too. Hope you have a bountiful Thanksgiving holiday. Feel free to eat as much turkey and pie as you want.

Fancy That

Elie Saab embellished top

Elie Saab Fall 2013

We’re getting to that point in the year, when time starts to pass at lightning speed. You’ll probably have more kids’ school concerts, after-work parties and holiday open houses to go to, than in all the other months combined. Which is kind of great, right?! You’ll get to blow-off some steam, socialize and procrastinate on finding gifts a bit longer. It also means having something casual-but-dressy to wear, which is why I’m throwing these fancy sweatshirts sweaters at you. Dress ’em up, or dress ’em down and they look good every which way.

These embellished sweatshirts are equally as happy with skirts, as they are with dress pants. Then on the weekend, pair one up with jeans. The crewneck keeps you covered (and warm), while the slouchiness and print make it interesting. Got a trip coming up? It could be worn on the plane, out for dinner that night and then again for ice skating with your kids, etc. Anyway, you get it. It’s a multi-tasker.

Be well,
